Funchal Botanical Gardens

Overview

The Botanical Garden or the Jardim Botanico in Funchal is one of the most popular tourist attractions on Madeira Island. Located on the slopes of Quinta do Bom Successo, an estate of the Reid family, this beautiful 35 thousand square metre garden is home to a variety of spectacular flowers, trees and plants, as well as an extensive collection of stunning exotic species from all over the globe. Visitors will come across indigenous and endemic plants, plants from tropical regions, an arboretum, as well as tropical and sub-tropical fruits, an amphitheatre, a café, and even an area devoted to exotic birds, such as Dwarf Parrots, namely the Louro Bird Park. Near the entrance is the Natural History Museum which is in the manor house that belonged to the original owners of the estate. Also, since the Botanical Garden is situated on higher ground, it is known for offering breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains and Funchal bay.

Prayer Facilities

While Muslims will not be able to find prayer facilities at the Botanical Garden, they may be able to find a clean and quiet place within the attraction to offer their prayers. If unable to do so, they will have to return to their hotel rooms at prayer times, since the city of Funchal is not known to house any mosques or Islamic Centres.

Halal Food

Muslim visitors to Funchal's Botanical Garden will be able to get a bite to eat at the attraction's terrace café. Although they will be able o find a good selection here, they will not be able to find Halal certified food. Since there are also no Halal restaurants in the city of Funchal, Muslim tourists will have to dine on suitable seafood and vegetarian dishes.
