Overview
When in the city of Porto, the Tower of the Clergy or Torre dos Clérigos, located in the heart of Porto's historical city centre, is quite hard to miss. Looming high above the city, this 75-metre high bell tower is the most visible landmark in Porto. Adjoining to this 18th-century Baroque bell tower is the Igreja dos Clérigos or the Clérigos Church, which is also a great example of Baroque and Rococo architecture and a well known tourist site. Apart from admiring the tower's incredible architecture, visitors must also make it a point to climb to the top of the structure. The monumental tower's 240 steps will not be easy to climb, but the spectacular panorama from the top will make it worthwhile.
Prayer Facilities
While there are no prayer facilities for Muslims in the Tower of the Clergy, there are a couple of mosques and Islamic Centres in the city of Porto, as well as in the surrounding cities. The Centro Cultural Islamico do Porto is one such facility. When visiting the tower, Muslim visitors can ask to be guided to the nearest mosque when needed.
Halal Food
Finding cafés and restaurants around the Tower of the Clergy will not be a problem at all. While most of these outlets are sure to serve non-Halal dishes, there are a few Halal restaurants in the city of Porto. Muslim tourists can therefore either dine on suitable vegetarian and seafood dishes at non-Halal eateries, or they can ask to be directed to a Halal outlet.
