Overview

The Dom Luís I Bridge in Porto is one of the city's top landmarks and is one of Portugal's most iconic structures. Spanning the River Douro and joining Porto to Vila Nova de Gaia, this metal arch bridge was engineered by a student of world renowned French engineer, Gustave Eiffel. While the lower deck of the bridge carries road traffic and has narrow walkways lining it, the upper deck is reserved for pedestrians and the metro railway line. Visitors who decide to walk across the bridge using the upper deck will be treated to absolutely magnificent views of the Old Town, Vila Nova de Gaia and the Douro River.

Prayer Facilities

Finding prayer facilities on the Dom Luís I Bridge will not be possible. Muslim visitors will however be able to find a couple of mosques and Islamic Centres in the city of Porto, such as the Centro Cultural Islamico do Porto. Visitors can therefore ask the locals to direct them to the nearest mosque when needed.

Halal Food

Visitors to Dom Luís I Bridge will be able to find numerous cafés and restaurants in the surrounding area. While most of these dining establishments will not be Halal certified, Muslim tourists are sure to find some outlets serving suitable seafood and vegetarian dishes. They will also be able to find several Halal restaurants in Porto.
