Overview

Located on the southern slope of the Hungerburg plateau, at an elevation of 727 metres, is the Alpenzoo; Europe's highest zoo. Home to over 2000 Alpine animals, including rare species, and featuring rivers, lakes, deciduous and coniferous forests, rolling hills and more, Alpenzoo offers so much to do and see for adults and children alike. Some of the animals that visitors will come across while at the zoo include; eagles, bears, bison, otters, wolves, deer, owls, ibexes, lizards, snakes, tree frogs, toads and bearded vultures. The zoo also houses the largest fresh water aquarium in the world, and a Show Farm home to a variety of popular farm animals. There is also a big playground for kids to enjoy while the adults take a break.

Prayer Facilities

Although Muslims visiting the Alpenzoo will not be able to find prayer facilities, they may be able to find a secluded place outdoors to offer their prayers. If unable to do so, they could make use of the facilities offered at one of the several mosques in Innsbruck. Some of the most prominent mosques and Islamic Centres in the city include Islamic Center Tyrol, Eltakwa Mosque and the Turkish Islamic Association in Tyrol.

Halal Food

Visitors to the Alpenzoo will come across a kiosk, offering a variety of snacks and beverages, within the zoo. There is also a restaurant located just outside of the zoo. While these outlets will not be Halal certified, Muslim visitors will be able to find vegetarian and seafood dishes on the menu. There are also a few Halal restaurants in the city of Innsbruck. More information can be obtained while at a local mosque.
