Overview

Visitors to Karachi are sure to come across the beautiful Masjid-e-Tooba or the Tooba Mosque. Locally known as the Gol Masjid, this mosque was designed by Pakistani architect Dr Babar Hamid Chauhan and built in 1969, in the Defence Housing Society, just off main Korangi Road. Often claimed to be the largest single dome mosque in the world, Masjid-e-Tooba is one of the top tourist attractions in Karachi. Built with pure white marble, the mosque features a dome that is 72 metres in diameter which is balanced with no central pillars on a low surrounding wall. This mesmerizing mosque also has a 70 metre high minaret and its central prayer hall can accommodate up to 5,000 people. Outside this stunning mosque there is a terrace that is also used for prayers, ablution facilities, and decorative water fountains.

Prayer Facilities

As mentioned above, Masjid-e-Tooba can accommodate up to 5,000 people. Muslims visiting the mosque will also be able to find ablution facilities. Since Pakistan is a Muslim country, all of its cities house numerous mosques. Some other well known mosques in the city of Karachi include Aram Bagh Masjid and Makki Masjid.

Halal Food

While visitors to Masjid-e-Tooba won't be able to find any food outlets within its premises, finding restaurants in the city of Karachi will not be a problem since all dining outlets will be Halal. Visitors to the mosque can therefore ask to be guided to the best restaurant nearby when needed. They must also make it a point to try out some of Pakistan's signature dishes like biryani.
