Overview
A trip to the city of Lahore is truly incomplete without a visit to the Shalimar Gardens. Built in the 17th century by the great Mughal emperor Shah Jahan, the Shalimar Gardens is one of the most famous tourist destinations in Lahore, an excellent example of Mughal architecture, and is the only surviving Mughal garden. The Shalimar Garden is also regarded as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Covering an area of about 80 acres, the garden consists of three terraces; the Farah Baksh, Faiz Baksh and Hayat Baksh. Visitors will come across 105 fountains in Farah Baksh, 152 in Faiz Baksh and 153 in Hayat Baksh, as well as splendid white marble buildings and a variety of beautiful plants and trees. The garden is popular amongst locals and tourists alike, and is an absolute must-visit when in Lahore.
Prayer Facilities
While Muslim visitors may not be able to find prayer facilities within the Shalimar Gardens, they will definitely be able to find mosques in the surrounding area, as Lahore is a Muslim city. Badshahi Masjid, Grand Jamia Mosque and Wazir Khan Mosque are just some of the many masjids in Lahore. Muslims visiting the gardens may also be able to find a secluded place to offer their prayers.
Halal Food
It is unclear if the Shalimar Gardens house any cafés or food stalls. Visitors can either take along some snacks, or they could dine at one of the many restaurants in the area. Muslim tourists do not have to worry about finding Halal restaurants in Lahore, as all of the dining establishments found in the city are Halal.
