The award winning National Railway Museum in York is a fantastic must-visit attraction for the entire family. With a collection of more than 1,000,000 objects from over 300 years of railway history, the National Railway Museum offers so much to do and see. It is in fact known to house the largest collection of railway objects in the world. Visitors get the chance to explore huge halls full of trains and will come across some of the biggest locomotives in the National Collection, in the Great Hall. The National Railway Museum is also home to the only Japanese Bullet Train outside Japan; Shinkansen, and a number of other railway legends such as the Chinese Engine, Duchess of Hamilton and Mallard. Visitors to the museum get to board locomotives, explore the renovated Station Hall; where they will get to see the Royal Carriages and visit Queen Victoria's favorite carriage, watch engineers at work in the Workshop, take part in interactive science shows, and more. The pictorial collection found at the National Railway Museum is vast and is a definite must-see.

Prayer Facilities

Finding prayer facilities at the National Railway Museum will not be possible. Muslims visiting the museum will therefore have to visit one of the few mosques and Islamic Centers in the city, namely the York Mosque & Islamic Centre or York Muslim Association. Muslim visitors can ask museum staff to guide them to one of the above mentioned prayer facilities when needed.

Halal Food

The National Railway Museum offers a variety of fantastic dining options. Visitors can dine at the Mallard Café, amongst magnificent locomotives, or at the Dining Car Restaurant or the Courtyard. While finding Halal food at any of these cafés will not be possible, Muslim visitors can dine on suitable vegetarian ands seafood options.
