Overview

Located on the narrow streets of Palma's medieval quarter, the Banys Arabs or the Arab Baths is one of the few remaining examples of Muslim architecture in the city. Found in the lush gardens of the Can Fontirroig manor house, the Arab Baths is said to have been constructed in the 10th century and is therefore an interesting look into Moorish relaxation. The baths are thought to have been a part of the palace of a Muslim nobleman that resided in what was then known as Medina Mayurqa; an Arabian city. When entering the square room, visitors will see 12 columns supporting a dome with various round apertures which were meant to allow the steam to escape. They will also see the use of a variety of different construction materials and architectural styles and an under-floor heating system. Since the Arab Baths is one of the very few remaining examples of Moorish architecture in Palma, it is an absolute must-visit.

Prayer Facilities

Muslims visiting the Arab Baths will not be able to find prayer facilities, bit since it is surrounded by a beautiful garden, visitors may be able to find a quiet, clean area outside to offer their prayers. They can also ask to be directed to one of the few mosques in the city, like Mezquita Abderrahman de Palma de Mallorca and Mezquita Ihsan.

Halal Food

Visitors to the Arab Baths will not be able to find any eateries within its premises. Muslim visitors will therefore have to dine on vegetarian or seafood dishes at non-Halal restaurants after ensuring the dishes they order do not consist of non-Halal ingredients, or they can dine at one of the few Halal restaurants in Palma, namely Nawaab and Aladdin Palace.
