Overview

Located just outside the city of Palma, Mallorca's Castell de Bellver is a well preserved 14th century Gothic style castle that is a definite must-visit. The Bellver Castle was built in 1310 and is unique among Spanish castles as it is entirely round. Used as a royal summer residence and then a prison, the castle is now one of Mallorca's main tourist attractions and it is also where the city's History Museum is located. The Palma museum of municipal history is home to a fantastic selection of Talaiotic, Roman, Arab and Spanish pottery as well as a fascinating collection of local artifacts. Although the exterior of the castle is incredible, in addition to its interior, one of the main reasons for it being so popular is the breathtaking views that the castle's roof offers of the surrounding city and bay. There are guided tours for those interested in learning more about the castle.

Prayer Facilities

Although the Bellver Castle is not known to house a prayer room, Muslim visitors might be able to locate a quiet, clean area in the courtyard to offer their prayers. They can also ask to be guided to the closest mosque in Palma. Two prominent mosques in the area include the Mezquita Abderrahman de Palma de Mallorca and Mezquita Ihsan.

Halal Food

Bellver Castle is not known to house a café or eatery. Muslims visiting the castle will therefore have to dine at one of the few Halal restaurants in Palma, or at a non-Halal local restaurant. Nawaab and Aladdin Palace are two restaurants in Palma known to serve Halal meals. While at the castle, visitors can therefore ask to be directed to the closest one.
