Overview
The Alcázar of Seville, the oldest occupied royal palaces in Europe, is one of the most beautiful palaces in Spain and is a not to be missed attraction when in Seville. This UNESCO World Heritage Site has undergone many transformations over the years. Built originally on the site of a military fort in the 11th century, the Alcázar complex of palaces combines different architectural styles in its design. The harmonious blend of Mudejar, Arab, renaissance and baroque influences can be seen throughout the palace buildings and the incredible Moorish elements incorporated in its interior, along with elaborate stucco work on the walls and ceilings, are quite impressive. The gardens and patios, with fountains, ponds and numerous colorful flowers are quite diverse and are laid out in Italian, French and Arab styles.
Prayer Facilities
Muslim tourists visiting the Real Alcázar of Seville will not find prayer facilities within the palace premises; however they will be able to find a few small mosques in certain areas of the city. Home to a sizeable Muslim population, the Macarena quarter is where most of the local Muslim population and where most of the prayer facilities are located.
Halal Food
There are no restaurants inside the palace compound. Muslim tourists requiring Halal food will be able to locate a number of restaurants in predominantly Muslim areas of the city. These restaurants serve cuisines such as Lebanese, Moroccan, Middle Eastern and Turkish. Muslim visitors will have to ascertain the Halal status of the restaurant or choose vegetarian or seafood dishes.
