The Buen Retiro Park

Overview

The Buen Retiro Park, also known as the Parque del Buen Retiro or El Retiro, is one of the largest parks in Madrid, and is spread across 350 acres. Located at the edge of the city center, the Buen Retiro Park began as a monastery, and is now the perfect spot for those looking to escape the hustle and bustle of the city. Home to numerous sculptures and monuments, galleries, fountains and a beautiful boating lake, this park is a popular spot amongst locals and tourists alike. Visitors can rent kayaks and canoes and circle the lake, or explore the Rosaleda rose garden, which is home to a variety of beautiful roses. They can also pay a visit to the Paseo de la Argentina, or the Paseo de las Estatuas, which houses some of the statues of kings from the Royal Palace.

Prayer Facilities

While the city of Madrid is home to a few mosques, Muslims visiting the Buen Retiro Park will not be able to find prayer facilities within its premises. They could therefore either ask to be directed to one of the mosques in Madrid, like the Madrid Central Mosque. Or, they could find a quiet place in the park to offer their prayers.

Halal Food

Although visitors to the Buen Retiro Park will not be able to find any eateries within its premises, the city of Madrid has quite a number of Halal restaurants at which they could dine. Halal restaurants in Madrid are known to serve a variety of cuisines like Moroccan, Indian, Turkish, Egyptian and Lebanese. Muslim tourists visiting the city will also be able to find some Halal restaurants near the mosques in the city, like Al Zahra, which is the official restaurant of the Centro Cultural Islamico.
