When in the city of Madrid, a visit to the historic and monumental Mercado de San Miguel is a definite must. Located close to the Plaza Mayor, in the heart of Madrid's old quarter, the Mercado de San Miguel is one of the oldest and most beautiful markets in Madrid. It is a popular shopping destination amongst locals and tourists for local delicacies and other food items. Here, visitors will find varieties of salted fish and other seafood, along with freshly made pastas, chocolates, cakes and a selection of baked goods, along with fresh, seasonal produce and more. The market has also become a popular spot for the locals, as it is the ideal place to gather and enjoy some delicious tapas, or appetizers.

Prayer Facilities

Muslim visitors to the Mercado de San Miguel will not be able to locate prayer facilities within the market, but they will be able to find a few mosques in the city of Madrid. Two prominent mosques in Madrid are the Madrid Central Mosque and the Omar Mosque. Muslims visiting the market could ask to be directed to the nearest mosque, when needed.

Halal Food

The Mercado de San Miguel is home to a variety of stalls selling some delicious food. Most of the food found here will however not be Halal. But, trying out some of the tapas available at the market is an absolute must, so Muslim visitors can stick to the vegetarian and seafood dishes, after making sure they do not contain anything non-Halal.
