Overview

A trip to Madrid is not complete without a visit to the Gran Via. Known as the Broadway of Madrid, this street that never sleeps is said to be Madrid's main tourist artery. Running through central Madrid from the Plaza de España to Calle de Alcalá, the Gran Via is home to hundreds of shops and restaurants, as well as numerous hotels. Also found at this famous boulevard are a number of large movie theatres which are now being converted into shopping malls. Apart from being one of Madrid's most important shopping areas, the Gran Via is also known for the magnificent architecture of many of the buildings found here. Some of these landmarks include the Edificio Metrópolis, the Telefónica Building and the Edificio Grassy. The bustling street is also the ideal location for some people watching.

Prayer Facilities

Muslims visiting the Gran Via may not be able to find prayer facilities nearby, but the city of Madrid is home to a couple of mosques. The Madrid Central Mosque and the Omar Mosque are two prominent mosques in the city. Muslim tourists could, therefore, ask to be directed to the closest mosque to the Gran Via, when needed.

Halal Food

As mentioned above; the Gran Via is home to numerous restaurants. Most of these restaurants may not be Halal, but are sure to serve seafood and vegetarian dishes. There are also plenty of Halal restaurants in Madrid, at which tourists could dine. These restaurants serve an array of cuisines and are suitable for any budget. El Aman and Al Zahra are two of the Halal restaurants in Madrid at which Muslim tourists could dine.
