Overview

L'Aquàrium de Barcelona is the largest Mediterranean themed aquarium in the world and is a popular attraction visited by many tourists. This must-visit aquarium, located in the port area, comprises of 35 aquariums, with over 11000 marine creatures and over 450 different species. A visit to the aquarium is a wonderful and fun way to learn more about the mysterious sea creatures found in the Mediterranean. The acrylic 80 meter tunnel is considered to be the highlight by most visitors. The tunnel allows visitors the opportunity to walk underwater and experience the thrill of walking inches away from the sharks, stingrays and various other sea creatures swimming overhead in the Oceanarium. The aquarium is divided into 3 main sections, each worth a visit. The section known as Explora is fun for those visiting with kids. Visitors brave enough to attempt diving with sharks can do so, on certain days, if prior bookings have been made.

Prayer Facilities

Muslim tourists requiring prayer facilities may not find a prayer room at the aquarium; however they will be able to locate a number of mosques or Islamic centers in the city of Barcelona. As it is home to a sizeable Muslim population and since more Muslim tourists are visiting the city, the number of prayer rooms spread across the city has increased; making it possible to find easy access to prayer areas.

Halal Food

Locating Halal restaurants in the city of Barcelona is not difficult as there are many food outlets catering to the local Muslim population and the numerous Muslim tourists the city receives. Those visiting the aquarium may not find Halal food within its premises, although there is a cafeteria. Muslim visitors could therefore choose to dine on seafood or vegetarian dishes at the cafeteria, or they could visit a nearby Halal restaurant.
