Overview

Also commonly referred to as Maschio Angioino, the medieval castle - Castel Nuovo - is one of the city's most prominent landmarks and is a popular tourist attraction in Naples. The castle is found facing Piazza Municipio and Palazzo San Giacomo in the heart of the city and presently hosts a number of cultural events throughout the year. The castle - which was once the historical city centre of Naples - was built in 1282 by Pierre de Chaulnes and Pierre d'Angincourt on behalf of Charles I of Anjou - the King of Sicily. Some of the main sights at the museum include the Armoury Hall, Saint Barbara Chapel, the Charles V Hall and the Sala della Loggia. The 15th-century bronze door of Guglielmo Monaco is another highlight of the castle and is worth seeing.

Prayer Facilities

Designated prayer facilities at Castel Nuovo will not be available for visitors but plenty of open space will be available around the castle area to use during prayer times. Naples is also home to quite a few mosques that can be visited such as the Masjid Jamaah Tabligh Eddawa, Associazione Culturale Islamica Zayd ibn Thabit and the Associazione Islamica Ahl-Al-Bait.
