Overview

Towering over Delhi is the stunning Masjid-i Jahān-Numā, or the Jama Masjid; the largest mosque in India, a definite must-visit. The mosque's large courtyard is capable of holding an incredible 25000 people at any given time. Built across the road from the Red Fort, the Jama Mosque was also constructed under orders from the Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan; and it was in fact his final architectural extravagance. This highly decorative mosque took 13 years to complete and has three gateways, four towers, two minarets and is covered with intricate carvings and beautiful calligraphy. The use of red sandstone and marble adds to the beauty of this magnificent mosque. For incredible views of the Delhi City, visitors can climb the southern minaret. However since it is a strenuous climb, it may not be possible for all visitors.

Prayer Facilities

Muslim tourists visiting the mosque will be able to pray here when needed, as the Jama Masjid is a functioning mosque. The mosque is able to accommodate over 25000 devotees for prayers if necessary and is frequently used by both the locals and Delhi's numerous visitors. Since it is centrally located, the mosque is quite easily accessible from most of the popular tourist destinations.

Halal Food

Delhi is known to be home to a plethora of great restaurants, therefore ensuring that Muslim tourists will be spoilt for choice when it comes to dining options. Tourists visiting the Jama Masjid will have plenty of restaurants to choose from, as the area surrounding the masjid has some fantastic Halal restaurants. Karims; a restaurant that has been around for over hundred years, is one of the most popular restaurants in the area and is a must-visit for those who want to enjoy delicious Mughlai cuisine.
