Vieux Port

Overview

Marseille Vieux Port or the Old Port of Marseille is the hub of the city and is a favorite spot for both locals and tourists alike. The city's old harbor, dotted with boats and yachts, is still a major draw for many visitors. The streets of this picturesque area is lined with numerous restaurants offering everything from pizza to the finest seafood dishes; making the port area a popular place to visit for some fantastic dining options. A walk around the old port area is highly recommended for those visiting Marseille for the first time, to truly get a feel for the city. There are also a couple of museums in the area that might interest some visitors. Those visiting the Vieux Port may also enjoy a ferry ride to the other side of the port while here.

Prayer Facilities

Muslim visitors requiring prayer facilities when in Marseille will be able to locate them quite easily as the city is known to have a number of masjids that a frequented by its residents and tourist. Therefore, while at the Old Port, Muslim visitors could ask the locals to direct them to the nearest prayer facility, when needed.

Halal Food

As mentioned above, Marseille's Vieux Port is a fantastic place to get a bite to eat. While Muslim tourists may not be able to find Halal food here, they will be able to find a plethora of restaurants serving fresh vegetarian and seafood dishes that do not consist of any non-Halal items. If able to locate a Halal restaurant, Muslim visitors must be aware that most of these establishments may only have a partial Halal menu and may also serve alcohol.
