Vieux Nice

Overview

Nice's Old Town is another must-visit when in the city. Its atmospheric, winding streets and artisan shops are definitely worth exploring. Vieux Nice, or Old Nice is home to narrow streets that are lined with delis, boutiques, shops selling household items, food shops, restaurants and cafes, all of which contribute to its charm. While in this beautiful and unique neighborhood, tourists must make it a point to pay a visit to Place Saint François, which is famous for its fish market. Also worth a visit is the 17th century baroque Palais Lascaris. Old Nice offers a unique shopping experience and is therefore the perfect place for tourists to pick up some unique souvenirs to take back home. The famous Cours Saleya flower and fruit market is also located just a stone's throw away. As the market opens at 6am, the best time to visit it is bright and early. Vieux Nice offers an experience like no other. It is enjoyed by both tourists and locals, and offers something for everyone.

As the wonderful city of Nice is home to quite a few mosques, Muslim tourists should be able to find mosques or prayer facilities in Vieux Nice. Muslim visitors are therefore advised to ask the locals to direct them to the nearest mosque or prayer facility, if needed, while here.

As mentioned above, Vieux Nice offers visitors a plethora of unique dining options. While it may not be easy to locate a Halal restaurant in Vieux Nice, it is not impossible. There are however numerous seafood and vegetarian restaurants, which are great choices for Muslims. Since socca; a pancake-like dish, is Nice's most famous, and Nice's Old Town has some of the best places to get this dish, tourists must make it a point to try it, while here.
