Overview

Willowbank Wildlife Reserve is one of Christchurch's most prominent attractions and offers a fascinating look at New Zealand's native wildlife in its natural environment. It is an excellent place for visitors to interact with New Zealand's local fauna, heritage farmyard animals and several other critters such as wallabies, deer and lemurs. Tuatara, brown teal and duvaucel's gecko are some of the species that are under conservation at Willowbank Wildlife Reserve and the reserve is also home to the only pair of takahē on display at New Zealand's South Island. The wildlife display at the reserve combines both conservation and culture and also includes a re-created pre-European Maori village for an interactive Maori cultural experience. Visitors will be greeted with a traditional Maori welcome and will also be able to witness a Maori Cultural Performance every evening.

Prayer Facilities

Though designated prayer facilities at Willowbank Wildlife Reserve will be unavailable for Muslim travellers, plenty of private space will be available to use during prayer times. Muslim travellers can also visit a few of the mosques in Christchurch such as the Masjid al Noor - Canterbury Islamic Centre which serves the Muslim community in the area.
