Overview

One of the last Atmospheric Theatres in the world, Auckland Civic Theatre is a massive heritage theatre built in 1929 and is presently a prominent landmark and venue in Auckland. The site has been named under the New Zealand Historic Places Trust in Category I and is also known for its Indian-inspired foyer, with twisted columns and domed ceilings. The main auditorium features Moorish Revivial architectural style and visitors will be able to see a Moorish garden with turrets, minarets, spires and tiled roofs. Visitors to the Auckland Civic Theatre will be given the illusion of being inside an outdoor auditorium at night, with an sky and twinkling stars above. Even at present, it is still New Zealand's largest theatre and is capable of accommodating over 2,000 people.
