The Dehiwela Beach - like the more-popular Mount Lavinia Beach - is a prominent beach in the Colombo district, located next to the Mount Lavinia Beach strip. The Dehiwela Beach stretches on for about 500 metres and is famed for its golden sand beaches, shady palm trees and pleasant atmosphere. Numerous eateries and shopping options are available in close proximity to the beach area and is just a walk away from the heart of vibrant Dehiwela city. The waves aren't too strong at the beach and swimming might even be possible during the months of December and January - though you might prefer heading the the Mount Lavinia Beach just a mile down the coast. The views during sunset is truly spectacular and also provides some of the best views of the city's skyline.

Muslim travellers who require prayer facilities near the Dehiwela Beach may visit some of the mosques in Dehiwela. The Dehiwala Jumma Mosque at Nandamithra Lane,
Waidya Road Mosque and the Dehiwala Town Jumma Mosque on Galle Road are some of the mosques near Dehiwela Beach and can be visited during prayer
times. Plenty of open area is also available at the beach.

available and for more dining options, travellers could visit some of the Halal restaurants in Mount Lavinia.
