Fukuoka Tower

Overview

Standing tall at an imposing height of 234 metres, Fukuoka Tower is Japan's tallest seaside tower and is one of Fukuoka's most prominent landmarks. The tower was built in 1989 following 14 months of construction, in celebration of Fukuoka City's 100th year anniversary and is presently considered to be a symbol of the city. The tower offers three observation rooms for visitors including the highest observation room at 123 metres that provides visitors a magnificent 360 degree panoramic view of the surrounding city as well as prominent sights of the city such as the Hakata wharf and Sefuri Mountain. The Lover's Sanctuary is another attraction of the tower, where couples hang a heart shaped key on a fence together in hopes of their love lasting forever. At night, the entire tower lights up in various colours and patterns, creating a truly magnificent view.

Prayer Facilities

Though designated prayer facilities at Fukuoka Tower itself might be unavailable, it is possible to enquire for a private area to make use of during prayer times. Muslim travellers who wish to visit a mosque may go to the Al Nour Islamic Center – the only mosque in Fukuoka, located in Higashi-ku.

Halal Food

Though there are a few eateries located within Fukuoka Tower, the availability of Halal food will be limited. It is possible to opt for a few vegetarian or seafood dishes but it is recommended that you enquire about how food is prepared prior to dining. Muslim travellers could also visit some of the Halal restaurants around Fukuoka for more dining options. Zaeka, Mr. Kebab, Kebabooz and Nabi San Halal are some of the popular spots and are all located within city limits.
