Overview
The Tsunami Memorial Garden at Phi Phi Islands was established in memory of the thousands of people who lost their lives when the 2004 tsunami struck and devastated Koh Phi Phi. The garden was built by volunteers and is presently a calm and peaceful area to spend a few hours. The well-kept garden features a pond and a collection of plaques bearing the names of the victims of the tsunami. The entrance of the garden bears a wooden board with "Phi Phi Tsunami Memorial Park" painted in white lettering together with its Thai translation. A walkway leading into the garden will take visitors through several sights - colourful flowering plants and plenty of other flora. The garden is worth a visit when travelling around the area - particularly if you are heading towards the Phi Phi Viewpoint.
Prayer Facilities
Muslim travellers in need of prayer facilities near the tsunami memorial garden may visit the Al-Islah Mosque, which is the only mosque at Phi Phi Islands. The mosque is located on Ko Phi Phi Don and is prominent white building which can easily be spotted. Plenty of open space will also be available around the garden area to make use of during prayer times.
Halal Food
There are quite a few Halal restaurants at Phi Phi Islands for Muslim travellers due to the resident Muslim population. It is also recommended that you contact the manager of your hotel or resort in advance to inform them about your Halal food requirements so that necessary prior arrangements can be made. Muslim travellers may also opt for vegetarian cuisine or seafood which will be readily available.
