Overview
Kuanzhaixiangzi are two parallel alleys - Kuangxiangzi Alley and Zhaixiangzi Alley - located towards the east of the city centre. Both alleys offer a wealth of historical remains that provide a deeper understanding of the life in Chengdu. Kuan and Zhai Xiangzi translate to "Wide and Narrow Alleys" and belonged to New Shao Town which was predominantly occupied by soldiers deployed by the Qing government to safeguard the city. Kuangxiangzi Alley - Wide Alley - was also known as Xinren Hotong and presently focuses on tourism, offering numerous eateries, teahouses, accommodation options and museums for travellers. Zhaixiangzi Alley on the other hand focuses on business, and visitors to Zhaixiangzi Alley will discover a wealth of western food options, coffee houses and fast food stops.
