Aspendos

Overview

The ancient Roman theatre of Aspendos - also known as Aspendus - was constructed in the early years of 176 A.D. and is located about 30 kilometres away from Side. The ancient structure was designed by the son of Theodorius - Zeno - with a series of marble bank rows that could accommodate up to 15,000 people back in the day. The walls of the threatre rise up to 30 metres in height and feature a number of decorations that reflect design elements of the past. It is considered to be one of the best examples of well-preserved theatres of antiquity and is a popular tourist attraction at present. The recently restored bridge area houses a number of souvenir boutiques, for tourists to take home a few mementos of their visit to Aspendos. Several Halal food restaurants and mosques are also located in the vicinity of Aspendos, ensuring that Muslim travellers will face no hassle when visiting the area.

Prayer facilities near Aspendos will not be difficult to find due to the number of mosques in Side such as the Fatith Mosque and the Selimiye Mosque which are the main mosques of Side. It is also possible to visit some of the mosques located in cities closer to Aspendos.

Finding Halal food near Aspendos will prove to be easy. Several Halal restaurants in Side are available, serving a fantastic range of Turkish and International cuisine. The Side Yesiloz Hotel is a popular spot and several other Halal restaurants and eateries are available in cities closer to Aspendos on the way.
