Overview
Built in the late 19th century, the Baba Nyonya Heritage Museum focuses on the history of Baba Nyonya - noble Chinese descendents who adapted to Malay culture. The museum celebrates the interracial relationships that formed between the Chinese and the Malays in the past when explorer Admiral Cheng Ho arrived in Melaka with numbers of Chinese settlers. The museum itself was once the residence of such a family - Rumah Abu. Visitors to the museum can witness several photo exhibits, traditional attire and costumes as well as numerous kitchen utensils and crafts that were used in the past. Several guided tours, audio visuals as well as a separate research centre are also available for visitors.
Prayer Facilities
Though designated prayer facilities at the museum might not be available, visitors could choose from a number of mosques in Melaka in the vicinity of the Baba Nyonya Heritage Museum.
