Overview

With its origins dating back to the early 20th century, the Johor Art Gallery was once used by the Imperial Army of Japan as their headquarters during the Second World War. The building itself features colonial-style architecture and old English design elements, with its white-washed walls and majestic pillars. The two storeys of the art gallery exhibit various art pieces such as paintings, calligraphy, sculptures, ceramics, as well as a number of historic items such as traditional weaponry, clothing, currency and manuscripts. Visitors should keep in mind that footwear should be removed before entering the museum premises, in accordance with Malay customs.
