Overview
Once the official residence of the King of Malaysia, the Istana Negara is currently a Royal Museum that covers around 13 acres of land area located on the slope of a hill of Bukit Petaling. The palace was originally a mansion of a rich Chinese businessman and was later occupied by the Japanese Governor in 1942 and by the British Military Administration in 1945. It was the official Palace of His Majesty The Yang di-Pertuan Agong during the years of 1957 to 2011, before the Istana Negara moved to a new palace at Jalan Duta in December 2011. Since 2013, 2 guards in Malay traditional wear are found stationed outside the main gateway, evoking the nostalgia and tradition of the Malay Sultanate.
