Overview
Opened to the public in 1999, the Petronas Twin Towers rise high above the city of Kuala Lumpur at an imposing height of 452 meters. Built with an intention to express Malaysia's rich cultural heritage while proclaiming its modernisation, the structure exhibits Islamic design by featuring stunning Islamic arabesques together with shapes and figures that are characteristic of Muslim architecture. After seven years of construction, the towers were declared the tallest buildings in the world at one point - between the years of 1998 to 2004. The towers are considered by many to be an icon of Kuala Lumpur as it embraces Malaysia's past and future, in both build and design.
