8 Ways to Recite The Quran Flawlessly

This Ramadan is going to be different for you. You are no longer going to sit around and be unproductive. This year, you will work towards becoming a better Muslim. One way you can achieve this is by reciting the Quran, and so here are 8 tips on how you can get the best out of your Quran recitation!

1) Learn Tajweed

As the Quran is in Arabic only, you must make the effort to build your foundation and learn how to read Arabic fluently. In other words, learn tajweed - a set of rules for the correct pronunciation of the letters in the Quran during its recitation. These rules will add beauty to your recitation. Reading the Quran without Tajweed will fade away the beauty of the recitation.

2) Take baby steps

You should start small with a short and easy surahs, which can all be found in the 30th chapter of the Quran. It is good for the beginners to start from there because the short surahs are good for you to learn the basics of Quran reading. If you become an expert at reciting the short surahs with beautiful recitation, then you can move to long surahs. This will ensure that you do not overwhelm yourself with something too difficult at first. Start small and you will definitely make progress as you go along.

3) Practice makes perfect

Recite the quran as much as you can, as frequently as you can. Nothing beats practice. The more frequent you do it, the better you get at it. Before you know it, you’ll be reading an unfamiliar page in the same amount of time it used to take you to read a couple of lines!

4) Recite Quran recitations during your everyday activities

This is so that you can inculcate a new habit with something that you are familiar with. You need to link the habit of reciting the Quran with something that you already do every single day without fail. For instance, you can read the quran after you perform each of your 5 daily prayers. You can read 4 pages after each prayer daily and finish the whole quran in a month!

5) Get in touch with a religious teacher

You need to ensure that what you're reading is correct. Things such as tanwin and dengnung are not easily self-taught. Thus, you must contact a religious teacher or anyone who is experienced in reading the quran, so that they can guide you and point out how you can improve, as well as what your strengths and weaknesses are in reading.

6) Learn some Arabic vocabulary

Memorising the Quran without knowing its meaning is like reading a storybook without knowing its story. It is so important that you educate yourself on the meaning of basic Arabic words so that at least, you have some clue on what the Quran is saying. You can purchase a tafsir al-quran to guide you as they provide other translations like English or Malay. Even learning just 300 words will account for about 70% of the entire Quran! So, don't waste time. If you start now, you will see your progress very soon!

7) Play the quran before you sleep

This tip is especially beneficial for you if you always struggle to get a good nights' sleep. You can head on over to sites such as Youtube and search up online quran recitation from famous and reliable ustaz or reciters. Over time, as you listen to the quran being read over and over again, you will start to remember parts of it which will most definitely improve your quran recitation.

8) Make dua

For every time that you intend to achieve something, always turn to Allah because He is in control of everything and He can lead you onto the path that you want. Tell Allah how much you want to improve and insya'Allah, He will listen to you and answer your prayers.

All the best Muslim brothers and sisters!
