Best Places for the Perfect Spring Vacation: Europe

As flowers bloom, festivals come to life, and Europe’s charm shines brightest in the spring season. Spring is undoubtedly one of the best times to explore Europe, with milder temperatures and the entire continent bursting with life.

In this article, we will take you through three of the best European countries to visit in spring—the Netherlands, Greece, and Spain—and explore what makes each destination unique in spring. Whether you’re drawn to vibrant tulips in the Netherlands, the ancient ruins of Greece, or the sun-kissed beaches of Spain, spring offers unforgettable experiences that are perfect for a spring getaway.

The Netherlands

The Netherlands is a must-visit destination in spring, especially for flower lovers. Spring is when the country comes alive with millions of blooming tulips, colorful gardens, and a vibrant atmosphere. Spring in the Netherlands can be a bit unpredictable, but it’s typically mild and pleasant, making it ideal for sightseeing. March brings temperatures around 6°C (43°F), while by May, it warms up to 10°C (50°F) to 18°C (64°F). While it can occasionally be rainy, it’s the perfect time to visit before summer arrives.

Amsterdam is well-known for its picturesque rows of tulips, which you can admire in the Bollenstreek, also known as the Bulb District or the Flower Strip! The Bulb District is an entire region where villages are surrounded by fields of blooming tulips. With its size, there’s no end to how to enjoy your time there. From hiking through the hills to cycling past fields of tulip rows, the Bulb District has several walking trails that allow visitors to admire the flowers and scenery at their own pace.

The Bulb District is also a popular place to visit as it hosts an annual flower parade held roughly around April. The parade winds through the district as giant floats (usually designed with a flower theme) are proudly shown over the stretch of the parade. The flower parade also opens up exciting ways to explore the tulip fields. There are attractions such as limited helicopter tours to admire the flowers, as well as guided

Other than its natural beauty, the city has other interesting sites that you can visit and explore, such as the Rijksmuseum, Van Gogh Museum, and the Bloemenmarkt. The two museums are famous for having extensive galleries that allow visitors to gain a deeper understanding and appreciation of art, and are especially well-loved by Van Gogh fans for their collection of his works. The Bloemenmarkt is also a unique attraction- while it’s a regular flower market, it’s one that floats on water, and makes for a memorable manner of buying flowers.

No matter which part of the Netherlands you decide to visit, it’s charming year-round, but spring adds a special touch that will guarantee an unforgettable trip.

Greece

Greece offers a perfect mix of ancient ruins, beautiful islands, and stunning coastlines. Spring in Greece is ideal for visiting historical landmarks, and provides the perfect climate with temperatures ranging from 15°C (59°F) in March to 22°C (72°F) in May. The weather is comfortably warm, which makes it an excellent time for sightseeing and outdoor activities. The islands and mainland are both welcoming during the spring season, and the weather is perfect for both beach relaxation and cultural exploration.

Athens is a must-see with its ancient ruins- you can visit the iconic Acropolis, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the most well-known place of interest in Greece. With its rich history, there’s no end of ancient wonders to marvel at. You can also stop by its museum where there are several galleries detailing specific artefacts discovered within the ruins, and the process of how they try to preserve the site whilst learning more about it.

You can also stroll through the charming streets of Plaka, Athens' oldest neighborhood. Located around the base of the Acropolis, the neighborhood stretches out to different areas, allowing visitors to explore it. By wandering through the streets, you can catch sight of the different forms of long-standing architecture, and pick and choose from the choice of souvenir shops and cafes on each street.

There are also smaller attractions to visit, such as the Museum of Greek Folk Art, which highlights the rich history of Greece through a different medium. Regardless of where you go, Athens is filled with a rich history that you can explore even while just strolling along the streets.
