As we enter the new Islamic Hijri year of 1445H, we should start the year with a great mindset and hopefully be filled with Allah's blessing. With so many things to expect from this year, doing good deeds is a substantial part of achieving and seeking Allah's blessing for the coming year. With so many things to reflect from our past actions as we embark on this journey and getting through the year, making a heartfelt dua that we can recite daily will InshAllah help us in becoming a better Muslim. Here are duas you can recite in welcoming the Islamic new year.
Allahumma anta al abadiyyul qadim al awwal, wa ‘ala fadhlika al-‘azhimi wujudika al-mu’awwal. Wa hadza ‘amun jadidun qad aqbala. Nas’alukal ‘ishmata fihi min asy-syaithani wa auliyaihi wa junudihi. Wal’auna ‘ala hadzhi al nafsil amaarati bis syui, wal-isytighala bima yuqarribuni ilaika zulfa.
O Allah, You are the Eternal, the First, the Most Beginning. I hope for Your great abundance of grace and Your mercy is worthy of hope. The new year has arrived. I ask You for protection from Satan and his followers, as well as help for self that tends to be bad. I try to draw closer to You, O Most High and Most Gracious. May Allah bestow blessings on our lord, the Prophet Muhammad , and his family and friends. Amin.
Allahumma adkhilhu ‘alayna bil amni wal iman, was salamati wal islam, wa jiwarim minash shaytan, wa ridwanim minar Rahman.
O Allah, bring this (month or year) upon us with security, iman, safety, Islam, protection from shaytan, and your pleasure.
Allahumma anta Rabbi la ilaha illa anta. Khalaqtani wa ana 'Abduka, wa ana ‘ala ‘ahdika wa Wa’dika mastata’tu abu’u Laka bi ni ‘matika wa abu’u Laka bidhanbi; faghfirli fa’innahu la yaghfiru-dh-dhunuba ill a ant a. A’uidhu bika min sharri ma sana’tu.
O Allah! You are my Lord. None has the right to be worshiped except You. You created me and I am your servant and I abide by your covenant and promise as best I can. I seek refuge in you from the evil, which I have committed. I acknowledge your favor upon me and I acknowledge my sins, so forgive me, for verily none can forgive sin except you.
[Bukhari]
Bismillahil-lazi la yadhurru ma’asmiHi syai’un fil ardhi wa la fis-sama’i wa Huwas-Sami’ul 'Aleem
In the Name of Allah with Whose Name there is protection against every kind of harm in the earth or in heaven, and He is All-Hearing and All-Knowing.
Allahumma inni a’uzubika minal baros, wal junuun wal juzam, wa min sayyi’-il-asqam
O Allah, I seek refuge in You from leprosy, madness, elephantiasis, and evil diseases.
[Sunan Abi Daud]
Allahumma la sahla illa ma ja’altahu sahla, wa anta taj’alul-hazna iza syi’ta sahla.
O Allah, there is no ease except in that which You have made easy and You make the difficulty if You wish, easy.
[Sahih Ibn Hibban]
