Well-known for its “chocolate-box villages” (rows of houses with chimneys similar to those on Cadbury chocolates in the 1950s), it’s a great place to escape from the hustle and bustle.

You can visit the confetti and lavender fields which are only available during the summer or walk on the Cotswolds Way National Trail which will take you to scenic routes on an easy path.

Throughout the season, there is a wide array of music and cultural festivals, including the largest free medieval gathering in Europe to take you back in time.

2. The British Museum in Londonthe british museum london

Visit the first national public museum in the world where you will find 8 million items telling the history of global civilization.

While there are some paid exhibits, the free entry is enough to explore some of their most popular displays such as the Rosetta Stone (aids to decipher Egyptian hieroglyphs), Egyptian Mummies, and The Islamic Gallery.

It takes about three to four hours to tour the entire gallery but if you are pressing for time, you can take a one-hour trail to see its iconic objects.

3. Cornwallcornwall's seaside

If you love outdoor activities and hanging by the coast, then Cornwall is perfect with its sunny weather and warm temperatures.

Many will go south to surf, rock climb, or laze around Looe Beach. You can also go on coastal walks that will bring you to fishing villages and sceneries by the cliff at Land’s End.

Also, when it comes to unique food offerings, you can try their Stargazy Pie. Just don’t be put off by the sardines, though.

4. Northumberland Coastnorthumberland coast

From hidden bays to castles, the Northumberland Coast has plenty to offer with its scenic views. Located just a short distance from Edinburgh and Newcastle, embark on a relaxing journey with sunset boat trips, fresh fish and chips by the bay, and lovely sand dunes.

If there’s one place you should visit, it’s Bamburgh Castle with restored rooms behind stone walls and a wide collection of historical weapons. And once you are done with your tour, visit Bamburgh town where you can enjoy idyllic green spaces, cafes, and delicious seafood restaurants to savor.

5. Stonehengestonehenge

This world-famous prehistoric monument was built around 5,000 years ago (equivalent to 2,500 BC) and was claimed to be a burial site.

Over the years, there have been many theories of its unique placement, including its alignment in astronomy and the sun during the solstices. It is why thousands will gather by Stonehenge every year on the summer solstice to witness the sunrise.

But do be warned, there may be rituals related to paganism taking place there. But regardless of your faith, it is quite an interesting event to spectate as the rhythm of music fills the atmosphere.

6. Brighton Beachbrighton beach

If you are looking for those Instagrammable colorful beach huts, you will find them at Brighton Beach (they are closer to Hove). It’s actually a shingles beach, which means you will not get much sand into your sandals while walking along the coast that stretches by miles. The beach are also home to some of the most popular tourist attractions in the UK, such as Brighton Palace Pier, i360, and Sea Life Brighton, making it even worth it to visit.

You can also participate in multiple watersport activities such as kayaking while soaking in the sun. There are multiple dining options by the beach, including topping up with some delicious Italian ice cream at Boho Gelato.

7. Edinburghcobblestone lanes edinburgh

Explore the city of Edinburgh where the sun doesn’t set until 9 pm. Admire the panoramic views from Arthur’s Seat and iconic cobblestone lanes at Victoria Street. Its medieval architecture will excite any Harry Potter fans as many parts of Edinburgh were used as an inspiration for this best-selling novel series.

If you have time, go on a two-hour tour inside Edinburgh Castle where the Great Hall and St. Margaret’s Chapel are open to the public.

Before You Go

The UK has plenty of things to do in the summer, especially with a rented car that will take you quicker to the outskirts of London. As summer is everyone’s favorite season, do ensure that you have booked your tickets for attractions in advance and have your sunscreen and water ready wherever you are.

Remember to share this with your travel partner to be prepared ahead of time!
