ٱللَّٰهُ أَكْبَرُ
Allahu Akbar
"Allah is Most Great" or "Allah (God) is the greatest"
Takbir is one of the most common Arabic expressions and is used around the world on multiple occasions. The use of takbir is unlimited both in formal and informal expressions. The formal use of takbir can be found during salah, adhan, and hajj, while informal use is usually found during daily life such as when expressing distress, joy, or defiance.
The recitation of takbir can be found multiple times during the day, implying that it is one of the greatest phrases. Performed five times a day at the minimum during the call of prayers, births and deaths, eids, and slaughtering, takbir is one of the phrases that accompanies us from birth till Jannah.
The meaning of the takbir itself is akbar which means great. In this case, it meant that Allah is the Greatest. Therefore, it is usually recited by Muslims on different occasions, especially when they are expressing happiness or approval. By reciting the takbir, we can also prevent us as Muslims to be prideful on our own and full of ourselves, instead reminding us that Allah is our source of success and no one else could provide them. By reciting the takbir, may Allah grant us with His endless blessings. Amin.
