If you reside within the Gauteng or northwest Provinces, Mount Amanzi might just be the perfect weekend getaway for you and your family. If you are an overseas traveler, however, I would rather suggest Sun City for a longer stay and perhaps Mount Amanzi for just an overnight stopover to power up. There are a number of activities to do in the surrounding area so a place to rest for the night will be wonderfully received after a vigorous day of exploring.
The resort is situated next to the Hartbeespoort Dam whose approximately 1700-hectare worth of water surface serves as both a water source to the surrounding homes and farms as well as a means of leisure to holidaymakers. As a result, the resort can get a bit cold at night because it lies directly adjacent to the dam with many additional streams surrounding the boundary lines.

The resort offers 5, 6, and 8 sleeper units, and all units are regarded as being fully self-catering. Self-Catering is an option in South Africa where the unit is almost like a mini home equipped with a fridge, stove, ironing board, utensils, and all the items required for a home away from the homestay. Each unit also has a private barbeque area and a patio for your convenience.
The ambiance of the resort is a bit rustic though and each unit is in the shape of a private bungalow with a delicately crafted thatched room. Despite the choice of material used on the roof, the insulation is surprisingly warm and free from any type of insects. The resort is literally a concrete jungle as you are surrounded by trees, streams, and troops of monkeys parading around in search of food. The monkeys do not disturb the guests however, they can be a bit sneaky with any eatables lying around and try to steal snacks whenever possible.

The amenities although entertaining is a bit outdated. Swimming options include a heated pool shaped in a cove-like design and two outdoor pools which can be a tad challenging because the roaming wildlife tends to dominate the area and you may occasionally find that ducks have overtaken the pool and converted it into their very own personal pond.
There is an outside entertainment area for the kids with a giant jumping balloon- it can get a bit rough on the balloon but the resort was kind enough to include a toddler jumping hour to avoid accidents with younger children- a giant chess and checkers board, trampolines and a jungle gym.

All facilities such as the miniature golf, the tennis courts, and even the games room can be used free of charge although as mentioned these facilities are a bit outdated so you will not find any cutting-edge technology at the resort. Other activities include hiking and running trails, a convenience store, and both an outdoor soccer field as well as an AstroTurf.
In terms of Covid standards the staff sanitizes all equipment after each use, the room contained a complimentary sanitizer bottle and the staff had masks on at all times. Despite the facilities, the demeanor of the staff was amazing. They were extremely responsive, courteous, and ready to assist with anything almost immediately. They were extremely friendly and contributed largely to a very pleasant stay. However, the check-in at 16:00 is relatively late and as a result of the new covid regulations, you are left standing in quite a long line before you can actually check into your room.

The resort has no Wi-Fi so if you are looking for a luxury camping option where you can enjoy nature but can still get the comfort of a room this resort is definitely worth the visit. With all the daily necessities already in the resort, there is no real need to venture out further with the venue being suitable as a break while passing through the Magalies outback or simply just as a weekend away to unwind and unplug.
