1. Canoeing James Bond Island by Big Boatjames bond island

Since Phuket is home to perhaps the most iconic island in the world, canoeing there has to be at the top of anyone’s list. Luckily, you can visit this beautiful island whilst remaining within your budget. Along with your guides, you will have the opportunity to explore the stunning rock formations and hidden caverns while canoeing or kayaking on this tour. Lunch and cool drinks are also included. There'll be time for swimming as well! You shouldn't miss seeing this region of Thailand.

Booking a big boat will be much more pocket-friendly as opposed to getting a private tour of the island and you may even make more friends! It is a beautiful escape into Thailand’s beautiful waters and picturesque views. We would also suggest packing a bag with your preferred drinks and snacks to avoid booking a tour with catering as those can get out of budget.

2. Visiting Big Buddhabig buddha

When visiting Phuket, you must pay homage to Big Buddha, the enormous marble statue that overlooks the island from Nakkerd Hills. Best part? It’s free!

You also get to enjoy 360-degree views of the Budha by driving up the winding route to the summit. See the many shrines, feed the cheeky monkeys, or eat from the food stands along the parking lot for inexpensive Thai street food. Just keep in mind to dress appropriately, and cover your knees and shoulders.

3. Phuket Town Night Market phuket town night market

Enjoy shopping but on a budget? This night market may just be your best option. Similar to other parts of Thailand, the main attraction in Phuket is the many night markets. Come to Phuket Town Night Market for a more authentic local shopping experience. It’s open daily from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. and mostly filled with locals rather than tourists, making it all the more appealing.

Explore the maze-like array of reasonably priced vendors offering off-brand clothing, accessories, trinkets, and souvenirs. It’s also got authentic Thai food to help keep you full after all that shopping. The traditional coconut ice cream vendor at the front door is a must-try; it's the ideal sweet treat to cap off your market explorations!

4. Trickeye Museum in Phuket

Phuket Trickeye Museum offers proper touristy fun in case tropical rains force you inside. Through the use of amazing optical illusions and deft trompe l'oeil techniques, this interactive art exhibition brings artworks to life.

Strike a pose by supporting the Leaning Tower of Pisa with your hands, embracing the Mona Lisa, or supporting the Sphinx with your palm. Youngsters will love the Harry Potter-themed gallery, where they can face off against a Hungarian Horntail dragon or ride a broom. At about $12 per adult, this is an affordable and fun activity.

5. Hitting the Beach phuket beach

Always more fun in different countries, but hitting the beach in Phuket is a must. The views across the coastlines are simply breathtaking, with cotton candy sunsets and blissful sunrises. The cool waters and beautiful wet sand are just a bonus. Now, while this activity may seem like a cliche, Phuket’s beaches just hit differently.

Our favorites include; Patong Beach, Kata Beach, Surin Beach, and Mai Khao Beach.

Money-saving Tips for Thailand

  • Use public transport like buses and trains instead of taxis or private drivers.
  • Walk or rent a bike when sightseeing in cities instead of using tuk-tuks or songthaews all the time.
  • For longer distances, consider flying with budget airlines (AirAsia, NokNok, Vietjet Air, Thai Airways are great) overtaking the train or bus to save time and potentially money.
  • Instead of staying in opulent hotels and resorts, stay in modest guesthouses. You can find private accommodations for as little as 300 THB a night.
  • For the lowest prices, stay in shared dormitory hostels. Excellent for backpackers or lone travelers.
  • Eat at local markets and on the streets instead of eating at restaurants. Whole dinners cost between 30 and 50 THB.
  • When you shop at street markets, try to negotiate a lower price.
  • Reduce how much you spend at pricey malls and fancy brand stores.
  • For paid events, search for deals, free days of admission, or inexpensive tour packages for groups.
