Singapore’s Little India is a vibrant, quirky and bustling area filled with the Indian local community spending their time and beyond. From the majestic temples to the famous Mustafa Centre, it has something for everyone, young and old.
When you come to Little India, it is not just India-centric attractions. Apart from Hindu temples, you will even find Chinese temples and Indian-Muslim mosques. This just shows how much of a mixed community Singapore is.

Sri Veeramakaliamman Temple is located in Serangoon Road. It has a Dravidian style architecture and is the oldest Hindu temple in Singapore, on top of going through various restoration works.

One of the last surviving Chinese villas in Little India, House of Tan Teng Niah was built in the 1900s by Tan Teng Niah for his wife. This quirky villa has not always been in a kaleidoscope of colours but thanks to the restoration works, visitors now flock to hang out and take playful photos.

Singapore is a foodie’s paradise, and Little India is definitely on the list of places to go. A hawker centre within Tekka Centre houses a plethora of food stalls from authentic Indian, Chinese vegetarian and Malay food. Try out biryani at Allaudin’s paired with masala chai at the various Indian drink stalls.

Outside of Tekka, one of the best places for biryani is at Bismillah Biryani at Dunlop Street. Aromatic rice, tender meat, what more can you ask for? If biryani is not your thing, try Sakunthala’s Food Palace for their murtabak, thosai or tandoori roti.

Mustafa is known to be a one-stop shopping haven and has virtually everything. You’ll find the most unexpected items, ranging from gym equipment to baby care items to even artificial flowers. It is also a great convenience that it is open 24/7.

Although Mustafa Centre sells electronics, Sim Lim Square is your next best bet to get your electronic gadgets. Look out for the best bargains but just like any other bargain places, be aware of con places.

If you want an authentic Little India experience, head over to Buffalo Street and Tekka Centre, especially at night with its hustle and bustle. Tekka Centre houses a wet market, hawker centre and various stores such as fabrics, traditional clothing and even hardwares and religious items.

The Verge houses a supermarket, a few restaurants and shops selling various items such as artificial flowers to sarees.

Just as the name suggests, Little India is a meeting point for the Indian community in Singapore but does not limit to that. Muslim Indians and Hindu Indians and even traces of the Chinese community resides here. Masjid Abdul Gafoor and Masjid Angullia are the mosques within the vicinity and are frequented by the Indian Muslims.
