Quarteira is a small town located just a few miles from Faro. The area has been inhabited since the Roman times. Quarteira was initially just a small fishing village but gradually came to be known for its beaches and pine forests surrounding the area. Today Quarteira is a well-known travel destination in Algarve. The area has some pretty beaches and golf courses where visitors can have fun.
The Roman ruins of Cerro da Vila in Quarteira are worth visiting. The Fort of Armação is also good to visit. The nearby resort town of Vilamoura attracts a number of visitors. The best way to get around Quarteira is by walking. Almost all the hotels and beaches are within walking distance of each other.
Quarteira has some excellent shops. Around the Marina area visitors can find wonderful shops selling local souvenirs and other items. Every Wednesday there is a gypsy market held in the city where one can buy some great things.
The nearest airport to Quarteira is the Faro Airport. From the airport visitors can take taxis to Quarteira, a one-way trip costs between 23-27 Euros and the journey takes about 20 minutes. Alternatively visitors can also get car rentals at the Faro Airport.
There are a few halal outlets in Quarteira. There is an Egyptian kebab shop that serves halal food close to the Quarteira town center.
