Lakeside Pokhara is crying out for a well maintained, clean halal restaurant. Pokhara Halal restaurant was deplorable! Cleanliness comes no where near the standards expected in Islam. My son ended up with a stomach bug after eating a biriyani. Pokhara is one of the cities that is worth visiting in Nepal. It also serves as a starting point for a number of treks in the Annapurna region.
There is a small masjid in Kaski close to the Pokhara Industrial Area. Availability of halal food in the city is not confirmed. It is best to enquire with the locals. If you are unable to find halal food there are numerous places that serve vegetarian delicacies that you will love to relish.
The Phewa Lake is one of the most picturesque lakes of Nepal. Surrounded by forests, the lake reflects the surrounding natural beauty. At a little distance from the heart of the city is the Begnas Lake. This lake is also beautiful, clean and quite tranquil. Other lakes around Pokhara include the Rupa Tal and the Dipang Tal.
If you are interested in an adventurous hike or day trip there are numerous places around Pokhara that can be visited. Visit Sarangkot about 5-6Km from the Lakeside hike up to the top and enjoy amazing views. At the northern end of the city is the Mahendra Cave and about 10 minutes from here is the Chamare Gufa or the Bat Cave.
Pokhara City has two interesting museums, namely the International Mountain Museum and the Gorkha Memorial Museum. The International Mountain Museum features the history of mountaineering, about the 14 peaks of the Himalayas and also about the people living in these areas. The Gorkha Memorial Museum is dedicated to the brave Gorkha soldiers of Nepal.
The lakes and water bodies around Pokhara offer visitors with excellent opportunities of white water rafting, boating, paragliding, etc. Mountain biking is also enjoyed by visitors to the city.
The streets in Pokhara are lined with shops where you can find locally made art and craft items. Look for handmade jewellery and trinkets. Bargaining is quite common in the area so do not hesitate to get the best price. You can find lots of shopping opportunities around the Phewa Lake.
A number of visitors to Pokhara opt to rent bicycles, scooters and motorbikes. Travelling on foot is also a good choice. There are several rental options available around the lakeside. Public transportation in the form of buses is also available but buses can get too crowded for visitors to board.
