Sitting below the Eiger and Jungfrau in Switzerland is the charming resort town of Wengen. The town can be accessed by rail and is just above Lauterbrunnen. It is an excellent holiday destination no matter when you choose to visit, as the winter months are perfect for skiing, and summers are great for hiking and cycling. There are not many Muslim-friendly facilities in Wengen. There are no mosques in Wengen and availability of halal food is also not confirmed, however visitors can find some vegetarian options during their stay.
Wengen is a car-free village except for a few electric vehicles used for transporting visitors from the station to their destination in the town, so exploring it on foot is a must. The model railway in front of the Belleview Hotel is definitley worthy of a visit, along with the numerous hiking trails around Wengen. There is an excellent trail up to the Mannlichen which can be traversed. There is also a cable car up to the Mannlichen. Another hike to the Wengenalp gives visitors some excellent views of the Lauterbrunnen Valley. There are also opportunities of ice skating and curling available at the ice rink in town.
Wengen is a good place for shopping. The town has some pretty shops that are quite inviting. There are also some shops that sell and rent hiking, skiing and trekking gear.
The nearest international airport to Wengen is the Zurich International Airport. The Zurich Airport is located about 190km from Wengen. From the airport visitors can either take cars or train. The journey by car takes about 2.5 hours and the journey by train takes about 3.5 hours. From the Zurich Airport visitors can take to Interlaken and then another train to Interlaken and then further to Bern and Lauterbrunnen. From Lauterbrunnen, Wengen is just 15 minutes by train.
There are a few Muslim-friendly restaurants in Wengen like the Cafe Gruebi, Baeren, Hotel Falken, Ristorante da Sina,etc. It is best for visitors to inform the restaurant staff about their dining preferences.
