Puerto Galera is a popular budget tourist destination in the Philippines that is located about 130 kilometers south of the capital city of Manila. The area is particularly famed for its numerous scuba diving spots, featuring perhaps the most diverse coral reef diving in the continent. In 1973 it was designated a Man and Biosphere Reserve of UNESCO and has also been listed as one of the Most Beautiful Bays of the World.
The area also is home to a diverse marine life with hundreds of species of fish, as well as over 180 species of nudibranchs. A number of shipwrecks from over the years are also found, including a few wrecks from the First World War. The mountain ranges of central Mindoro are also a noteworthy attraction, and are located in the vicinity of the beach area.
Other popular attractions in Puerto Galera include a number of waterfalls such as the Tamaraw Waterfalls, Tukuran Falls and the Aninuan Falls. Visitors may also explore the underwater caves or indulge in a number of other exciting activities such as island and beach hopping, mountain golf and bike rides.
The airport closest to the city of Puerto Galera is the Ninoy Aquino International Airport, which is located around 120 km away from the city. Puerto Galera is located three hours away from the capital city of Manila and for visitors arriving from Manila, the best mode of transport is by car. There are also a few bus routes that run through the area.
Though a plethora of restaurants and accommodation options are available throughout the city, access to Halal food will be limited. However, plenty of seafood will be available at almost any restaurant and visitors also have the choice of opting for vegetarian cuisine. However, it is recommended that you being along a few Halal food items with you, in the case of unavailability of suitable food.
No known mosques are available in the small town of Puerto Galera. However, visitors who are willing to travel a bit further could visit the Al-Masjid Al-Hadiya Sablayan which is also located on the Mindoro Island.
