Being another delightful beach destination in Tanzania, Bwejuu will delight all types of travellers - beach lovers in particular - with its glorious beaches and warm climate. The beauty of the Bwejuu beaches has earned it a spot in the top 30 beaches in the world by Conde Nast Traveller and the distinct charm and atmosphere of the beach is something that must not be missed out when travelling in Tanzania. Facilities for Muslim travellers may not be readily available in comparison to some of the bigger cities, but the locals will be able to direct Muslim travellers to the nearest Halal food spots and mosques in the area.
The village of Bwejuu is found on the southeastern coast of Zanzibar Island and is a popular beach destination in the country. It lies towards the south of Michamvi Peninsula - a peninsula which forms the upper part of the southeast coast of Zanzibar - and the Dongwe district.
The town of Jambiani is located in close proximity to Bwejuu - about 7 kilometres away - and can also be visited while travelling in Bwejuu. Common sights when travelling in the village will include children on bicycles, local women collecting seaweed and people in general making their way through the village.
The beach area is generally secluded and offers a pleasant private atmosphere for travellers to relax and unwind. With Bwejuu being a popular destination amongst backpackers, travellers will be able to find quite a few budget accommodation options available in the village.
The Zanzibar International Airport is the closest airport to Bwejuu village and is located a few kilometres away. Also known as the Abeid Amani Karume International Airport, the airport is one of the most prominent airports of the country and serves numerous airlines and passengers throughout the year. It offers two terminals and a range of facilities and services for passengers.
Though there are no prominent Halal restaurants in Bwejuu, the locals may know a few places in the village where Halal food is available. Seafood options will also be readily available in the village for Muslim travellers. More seafood options will be available in the village of Jambiani, which is located a few kilometres away from Bwejuu.
There are no known prominent mosques in Bwejuu but there is a sizable Muslim community in the area and the local residents should be able to direct you to the nearest prayer facility in the village. At times when prayer facilities are inaccessible, it is best to use the privacy of your accommodation or enquire for a private area that can be used during prayer times when travelling outdoors.
