Luxembourg City is the most important city and the capital of the country of Luxembourg. The city is divided into several districts but the most attractive is the old town area. Listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the old town also known as Ville Haute or High City is quite beautiful and features numerous shops and restaurants. The Ville Basse is a beautiful area also known as the Low City. The Ville Basse is located in a huge valley shaped by the Alzette River. The Grund in Ville Basse is the best destination to visit in the area.
The National Museum of History and Art is an excellent destination to learn about the history and art of the country. The Casemates Bock is a wonderful complex of underground fortifications; it is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The Grand Ducal Palace is located close to the Place Guillaume and houses the Parliament. The Kirchberg area is the modern city located close to the airport. The area features several buildings and banks.
The city also offers a great shopping experience. Crystals, handcrafted items and porcelain make some of the best buys in the area. The Grand Rue located in central Luxembourg City is great for shopping. Other good places for shopping are Rue de la Poste and Avenue de la Gare. There are also some modern shopping malls in the Kirchberg area.
Luxembourg City is served by the Luxembourg-Findel International Airport. The airport is situated about 6km from the city center. From the airport visitors can get buses or taxis to reach their destination in the city.
