Kaunas is a vibrant city and the second-most important city in Lithuania. The city features excellent architecture and several museums. The Old Town of Kaunas was built from the 14th to the 17th century and many of the buildings in the area resemble gothic, baroque and renaissance style of architecture. The Old Town features numerous open spaces and several museums that are worth visiting. The Kaunas Castle and the Kaunas City Hall are some of the main landmarks in the area.
The museums in Kaunas are excellent to visit. Some of the best museums to visit in Kaunas are Jewellery Museum, Tadas Ivanauskas Zoological Museum, Vytautas the Great War Museum and the M. K. Čiurlionis National Art Museum. Kaunas also has a number of green spaces where visitors can sit down and enjoy some fresh air. The best places to enjoy the greenery in the city are the Ažuolynas Park, the Lithuanian Zoo Park and the Kaunas Botanical Garden. Along the banks of the Nemunas River visitors can find a number of beaches where they can have fun. Some good beaches to visit are Panemunes Park Beach, Lampedžiai Lake Beach and the Kaunas Reservoir Beach.
There are a number of things that visitors can buy while in Kaunas like amber, bone china, linen, cheese, etc. There are numerous malls in the city that give visitors several shopping options. Some good shopping malls in Kaunas are Mega, Urmas, Akropolis, Molas, Savas, etc.
Kaunas is served by the Kaunas International Airport. The airport is located about 14km from the city center. From the airport visitors can take a shuttle bus to reach the city. Taxis are also available from the airport and a taxi rode from the airport to the old town costs around 55 LTL.
