Liepaja is a major port city located along the Baltic Coast in the western part of Latvia. The city is segregated into three sections and is separated by canals. The southernmost part of Liepaja is the oldest part and houses old churches and buildings. The central part of the city is known as the Northern Suburbs and was built in the 19th century. The city features different types of architecture ranging from wooden houses to Art Nouveau buildings and apartments from the Soviet-era.
The city features a number of green parks. The Seaside Park is one of the most popular and beautiful parks in the city. The park is located in the heart of Liepaja and is located next to the beach. Along the promenade is the Amber Clock made of pieces of amber. The Liepaja Lake is not far from the city center and is great to spend some time at. About 10km from Liepaja is the Soviet military town of Karosta. There are several beaches around Liepaja that offer visitors with a number of activities to enjoy.
Liepaja hosts a number of open air markets where visitors can get excellent deals. The Peter’s Market and the Anne’s Market are both good places to shop. In the city center is the Petertirgus Market. There are also some good shopping centers in Liepaja such as Kurzeme, Rietumu and Ostmala centers.
