The hub of the original Greek culture, Athens is a great place to visit. The city is one of the main cultural hubs in Europe and attracts visitors from all around the world. There are numerous historical sites across the city that travelers would love to visit. Athens is majorly recognized by the majestic Parthenon, which is also a well-known UNESCO World Heritage Site. The city also features a large number of museums that detail the history and culture of the area. The National Archaeological Museum and the New Acropolis Museum are interesting and must-visit places.
The two highest points of the city namely the Acropolis and Mount Lycavittos can be seen from all the places in the city. The Acropolis was the original town of Athens and was then fortified; today visitors can see its ruins. The site is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. From the Ancient Agora visitors can get an amazing view of the Acropolis. Athens also has some excellent green spaces and parks. The National Garden of Athens and the Parnitha National Park are especially excellent places to visit.
Just below the Acropolis is Plaka, a wonderful shopping destination in the city. There are numerous souvenir shops in Plaka where visitors can find a wide variety of items. Kolonaki is a high-end shopping destination with numerous artistic and upscale shops and boutiques. Ermou located off Syntagma Square is also good for shopping.
Athens is served by the Athens Eleftherios Venizelos International Airport. The airport is situated about 27km from the city center and features excellent facilities. From the airport, visitors can take the metro, suburban rail, express buses, taxis, or private transfers. A one-way metro ticket per person to the city center costs around 8 Euros. A taxi ride to the city center costs 35 Euros and a one-way bus ticket costs around 5 Euros. Visitors can also book private bus transfers prior to their arrival in the city.
There is a good range of Halal restaurants in Athens where visitors can relish a wide range of cuisines. Some good places that serve Halal food in Athens include Spicy Fast Food & Restaurant, Green Garden, Anahita, Indian Kitchen, Makkah Restaurant, Noors Restaurant, PARS, Dhaka Palace, etc. It is also possible to opt for vegetarian cuisine at some of the local restaurants in Athens but it is recommended that you enquire about how food is prepared prior to dining.
