The history of Cavtat dates back to the 6th century BC when it was established by the Greeks who originally named it Epidaurus. Its name was changed to Epidaurum in 228 BC under the rule of the Romans until the Byzantine Empire took over the town during the Gothic War in 535–554. Its current name Cavtat translates to "old city" in Latin.

Muslim travellers will find it difficult to access Halal food in the area since there are no known Halal restaurants in Cavtat. However vegetarian and seafood cuisine should be available at most local restaurants in the area. It is recommended that you enquire with restaurant owners about how food is prepared prior to dining.
There are no known mosques in Cavtat and finding access to prayer facilities in the city will be rather difficult. The best option for Muslim travellers is to use the privacy of their hotel room or accommodation option during prayer times or enquire for a private area that can be used when travelling outdoors.
