Description

The town of Opatija is located towards the west of Croatia, southwest of the seaport city of Rijeka, along the Adriatic Coast. It is home to a population of about 11,000 residents, with majority of the population living in the urban settlement. The area is also one of the oldest tourist destinations in Croatia.

Offering a mild Mediterranean climate, Opatija is a popular tourist destination throughout the year and is both a summer and winter resort. However for travellers who wish to avoid large crowds, travelling during the off-season of Spring and Fall is recommended, when most accommodation rates drop significantly.

The history of Opatija dates back to the pre-Roman era and traces of Opatija's rich past and heritage can be witnessed in the city at present. Travellers will be offered a range of attractions and historic places-of-interest, with some of the prominent landmarks being the ancient 14th-century Benedictine abbey, Villa Angiolina - which is now a museum, as well as the town park Angiolin.

Nearby Airports

The nearest airport to Opatija is the Pula Airport located in the city of Pula, about 100 kilometres away from the Opatija city centre. It is a fairly busy airport in Croatia, serving numerous airlines and passengers throughout the year. It also serves some of the smaller cities around Eastern Italy and Slovenia.
