Sandanski is a well-known holiday destination in Bulgaria. Popular for its health resorts and offering scenic views, Sandanski gives visitors an opportunity to enjoy and also relax in the surroundings of nature. The town is located at the base of the Pirin Mountains and is quite beautiful. The area also hosts a number of festivals all around the year. The city center itself is quite beautiful and hosts a number of art galleries, cafes and restaurants.
Historians say that the town of Sandanski has been established on the ruins of an ancient Byzantine town. Ruins of several Episcopal basilicas have been found around the area. There is a wonderful Museum of Archaeology located in the town that has exhibits and information dating back to 27 centuries ago. There are also some wonderful art galleries around the town that depict the art work of several artists. There is also a small and pretty park in the town known as the SvetiVrach. Some of the trees in the park are as old as 500 years.
Sandanski also offers some good shopping. Most of the shops in the town can be found around the city center especially along the Macedonia Avenue. The best things to buy in the town are local art and craft, puzzles, wooden toysand clothes.
