Ruse

Description

Ruse is the fifth largest city of Bulgaria located along the banks of the Danube. Featuring an uncanny resemblance to Vienna, there are several Neo-Baroque and Neo-Rococo buildings and beautiful squares that take visitors back in time. The city also has a large number of museums and a Roman fortress which is presently in ruins. Ruse also serves as an excellent base for exploring the Rusenski Lom Nature Park.

The Freedom Square is the main square in the city and all the major festivals and events are held here. The National Transport Museum is located inside the Battenberg Palace and features a large number of artifacts. The Ruse Regional Historical Museum has numerous exhibits dating from the pre-historic times. The Museum of Urban Lifestyle in Ruse is another interesting museum in the city that gives visitors and insight into the lifestyle of the locals.

Ruse also offers a good shopping scene. Around the Freedom Square are the two major shopping destinations the Alexandrovska Str. and Borisova Str. These streets are lined with shops boutiques, cafes and restaurants. Another good place for shopping is the Mall Rouse located just outside the city on the road towards the Danube Bridge.

The nearest airport to Ruse is in Bucharest in the neighboring country Romania. The Bucharest airport is located about 75km from Ruse and regular airport shuttles are available from Bucharest Airport to Ruse.

The Varna Airport in Bulgaria is about 195km from Ruse and the Sofia Airport is about 310km from Ruse. Buses, taxis and trains are easily available from Varna and Sofia to Ruse.
